Since 1991 the Maine Geological Survey in Augusta has photographically documented the destruction of Songo Beach at Sebago Lake State Park due to the artificially high water levels allowed by the State of Maine at Sebago Lake.

The photographs in the Maine Geological Survey collection represent the only continuous documentary record of the progressive destruction of Songo Beach and other natural features of Sebago Lake since 1990.

Until now, this photograph collection has only been viewable at the Survey office during office hours and could not be removed from the building for duplication. In October 2007, Friends of the Sebago Lake brought a computer to the Geological Survey offices and scanned a substantial portion of the collection for comparative analysis and public viewing.
